Is there a clear protective coating to cover paint?

When I stain something I usually use a polycrylic product. What can I use over something I painted for protection. Is there a clear protective coating to cover paint?
You can use Polycrylic brand finish over both latex and oil paint if you don't mind a slight change in colour (polycrylic turns things slightly amber). I would suggest lightly sanding the surface first with approximately a 220-grit sandpaper, then washing and rinsing. If the paint job is more than about three months old, I'd also suggest washing it with a solution of TSP in water, especially if the item is in or near the kitchen.

You can also use a more glossy finish of the same brand and colour of paint. Semi-gloss and satin finishes are made for places that take a beating, like bannisters, handles, sashes, and the like.

The drawback with both is that any imperfections in the painted surface will be more obvious. Is there a clear protective coating to cover paint?
There are anti grafiti paints that are clear and also clear sealants. A good paint shop or Hardware store can help you.
