Yes you can - just make sure and cover up the feed tube in the magwell and don't spray into the barrel. If you spray in light coats, you won't have sticking switches, body pins etc. Failing that, you could take it apart and spray the parts individually.

However, under the terms of the Violent Crime Reduction Act, modifying an unrealistic imitation into a realistic imitation is counted as manufacturing a Realistic Imitation Firearm, which is illegal.

Now, there is a defence to that part of the law for legitimate airsofters which will legally allow you to make it realistic - read on mate! ;)

Unlike the part of the Act applying to the sale of imitation firearms, there is NO AGE LIMIT on the defence to the manufacturing part.

To qualify for the defence, you must be a legitimate skirmisher on a site with public liability insurance (as any and all official, organised sites in the UK have). Once you can prove that you're legit, then you can LEGALLY manufacture, sell and import realistic imitation firearms (though being under 18, you may have difficulty in importing them).

How to prove your legitimacy (without being UKARA registered)? Simple - keep a skirmish diary. Get a wee notebook, and every time you go to a game make a note of the date and site. Make sure and get it signed or stamped by a site official each time. there you go - instant proof that you're a regular player on official sites.

HM Customs accept this as proof of a defence for importing, so it will also be enough to satisfy any other authorities. Can you spray paint a clear/two toned airsoft gun?
