Is there a such thing as a clear sealer for paint?

I painted my cabinets with black semi gloss paint and it seems to be kind of dull...is there a such thing as a clear sealer to shine it up a bit? Thanks! Is there a such thing as a clear sealer for paint?
I have put varnish over paint on many occasions with no problems. We just finished having our kitchen and bath cabinets painted and glazed. To protect the finish, we put on two coats of polyurethane. It is doing just fine.

We have a set of ladder back chairs that are over 30 years old. We painted them black when we purchased them and didn't like the sheen so we painted over the black with a satin varnish. It has never failed, cracked, peeled or puckered. It has worn away on some of the front rungs but that is to be expected. Is there a such thing as a clear sealer for paint?
If you are goint to take the time to put on another coat, put on a coat of the same paint. It sounds as if the paint may not have been mixed or stirred well if it were to be a semi and came out dull. Check the label again, I would not recommend using a poly over the painted surface.
Yes clear shellac aerosol sticks to about anything and is glossy.
Yes.

Its called polyurethane. You can get it in an aerosol or a can to brush it on. Use in a well ventilated area.
Absolutely. There are a number of different clear coats at the home store that come in different finishes, shiny or not. Be sure to get one that says 'non-yellowing' and that will be compatible with the type of paint you put on your cabinets.
